Because the number of cases of tuberculosis in Romania is the highest in the EU, this remains a constant concern. An additional problem is the growing number of patients who have become resistant to the treatment / medication. This is because these people do not finish the treatment. Lack of money (to go to the hospital or the doctor), lack of knowledge and alcoholism are factors why the treatment is interrupted.
In many cases, TB can be prevented by observing good hygiene at home, on the work floor and in schools. Yet almost nothing is done to point this out to people. That is why RCHF values prevention and health education and we have worked over the years on a good cooperation with hospitals and doctors, such as the hospital for lung diseases in Iasi.
RCHF is a member of STOP TB, partner of the WHO (World Health Organization).
